I have seen this travel quote many times and have always agreed with it. However, since I have been blogging, and reading more blogs, it has even more meaning. Since my husband and I started traveling years ago, our eyes have been opened to so many new experiences and different cultures that I would not have had if we hadn’t made travel a priority in our lives. I even quit my 9-5 office corporate job to write this travel blog, and I am working on trying to live a freedom lifestyle.
I have heard and read that many people mistakenly assume that travel is a means of escape. They feel that people who travel extensively have no real goals, responsibilities or ambitions. We travel a lot, but not as much as I would like, or not as long as I would like, However, I have many friends and followers who do and find travel very fulfilling as well. Each one of them would say that traveling to escape or using it as a form of escapism. It is the furthest thing from the truth.
They feel that travel is never an escape mechanism, but instead, it is the start of a journey into the future, and it holds almost unlimited opportunities. When you travel, the entire world is available for exploration. You can go almost anywhere that you have ever dreamed about visiting. You can be part of a different world, even if it is only for a few short days or so. If we didn’t travel, I would hate to think of all the moments, memories, and adventures we would miss by not exploring this great big world. It has definitely broadened our horizons, and I certainly can relate to that travel quote.
Travel also provides the opportunity to meet new people, and learn about the world where they live, and their customs. This helps you grow and be a better person, as well as realize that our world isn’t as big as we all think it is. Even though we are all different, I have learned that we all basically want the same things in life. Being from the US also puts our “issues” into perspective.
Plus, if you don’t travel you miss the excitement of a new adventure. Anyone who has ever started out on a trip knows that feeling of excitement when you are about to leap into the unknown, and this brings excitement as well as a little fear and apprehension. I will never forget the feelings, good and bad, before our first real trip to Paris. It was a little stressful hours before we were heading to the airport (you can read about our hotel cancellation and missed flight), but we still had a wonderful time and were so glad we went and enjoyed ourselves.
Personally, I feel that life is about living, not just passing time. Travel helps you enjoy your life and prevent it from escaping and passing you by before you realize it. I am working on saving as much as I can and traveling as much as we can when we can. Right now I am in the process of trying to save up enough money for us to take off a full month during 2023 which will be our 25th anniversary. We only had a short honeymoon, so we really want to renew our vows, and spend some time just relaxing, enjoying our time together, and making future plans for our “Golden Years”. lol
I feel sorry for people who don’t see the true meaning behind this travel quote I shared today, and feel it is just a way to escape and be lazy or carefree. Take it from me and my fellow travel friends and followers, travel is fun but can be difficult as well. But it is so worth it, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Happy Travels wherever they may take you. I have never heard the quote, but it makes a lot of sense.
Good for you to get out and explore! To me these adventures are way more valuable than fancy clothes or other “stuff”.

You make very good points and I agree with you. Travel broadens our lives. I do enjoy travelling but I hate the planning and getting ready. Once I’m on the plane/car/boat/whatever I am ok. And I’ve been travelling since I was 6 years old when I left my home country of China. Sometimes I have to remind myself that when I feel like a stick in the mud. I had an experience, too going to Paris a few years ago. I had to buy 3 sets of tickets. It’s a long story but we got reimbursed.
