Rapid City Restaurants – 4 Unique Restaurants in South Dakota

Rapid City Restaurants 2

Living in Denver, we have now been to Rapid City, South Dakota several times to visit such landmarks as  Mount Rushmore National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial. and the Badlands National Park. While visiting these attractions are always exciting, another fun part of traveling is trying new restaurants. Thus, we always like to try some non-chain restaurants or at least chains that are not in our area. Of course, we had to hit a few of those while out and about but we were able to find a few unique restaurants. Here are four Rapid City restaurants that I decided I would like to share from some of our visits.  Hope you enjoy reading about these and try them the next time you find yourself in the area. Serendipity 3 – Upper East Side New York Restaurant

Serendipity - OutsideWhile in New York City we ate a quite a few nice restaurants, but there was one that I really had wanted to visit while in the city, Serendipity 3. I had heard a lot about this renowned Upper Eastside restaurant and thought it would be fun to visit and try one of their famous Frozen Hot Chocolate drinks.  I have to say I love their definition of Serendipity: the art of making happy discoveries or finding the unexpectedly pleasant by chance or sagacity.  They also state that they are more than a mere coffee shop, more of an ice cream parlor on steroids, Serendipity has been synonymous with fun. Since September 14, 1954, its menu of outrageous desserts and fun food, served in a Manhattan townhouse amid exuberant Victorian decorations, has charmed children and their parents, not to mention celebrities from  Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, and Beyonce. Sadly we didn’t see any famous people while we were there, but we did have a great time with a New Yorker friend that I use to work with. Plate Lunches on Oahu, Hawaii – Our Four Favorites

Plate Lunch - Loco MocoOne of the things that everyone told me I would enjoy while in Hawaii (besides the ocean of course) was the food, especially the plate lunches. I didn’t know exactly what that meant yet, but I quickly found out that we had quite a few plate lunches during our visit to Oahu in December of 2016.  They may be served a little differently depending on where you go, but they are pretty much all the same, a protein, 2 scoops of rice, and 1 scoop of macaroni salad.  Some places even let you have a little side salad instead of the macaroni salad if you wish. After our first one, they were pretty much all we ate while on Oahu. Below are four of the places we enjoyed the most while on the island.

The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa – Downtown, Denver

Brown Palace -Outside We have now lived in Colorado for over 8 years and had never been to the Brown Palace. We have heard a lot of things about this historic downtown Denver hotel, but up until a few weeks ago, we had not taken the time to go in and check it out. The first thing that I have to say was that it was bigger and smaller all at the same time if that is possible. Apparently being tall and skinny makes it look bigger. I loved how stylish it is, and how inviting all the staff made me feel while I was there. I talked to a desk clerk as well as the concierge. They were very helpful and even gave me a self-guided tour book of the hotel. They do have guided tours, which I will get into later, but I ended up just doing the self-guided tour the day I was there. Continue reading “The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa – Downtown, Denver”

Lookout Tower Harbour Centre and Restaurant – Vancouver, BC

Lookout Tower 1On our anniversary in May of 2016, we spent a few days in lovely Vancouver, Canada.  We didn’t have a lot of plans, but knew while we were there we wanted to make sure to visit The Vancouver Lookout Tower at Harbour Centre. It was absolutely amazing. I know I say that a lot, but it really was.  It is the only place in Vancouver where you can enjoy a 360º aerial view of Vancouver. The best part was that it was an all-day ticket and we were able to go back later that evening after dinner. Continue reading “Lookout Tower Harbour Centre and Restaurant – Vancouver, BC”

Your AAA Card Can Save You Enough Money to Pay Your Membership!

AAAColoradoEverybody knows that the Automobile Association of America (AAA) has roadside assistance, and will be there when you need them. Heck, I have been with them for over 25 years and have used them quite a few times. There is nothing like seeing that big white truck coming to help you. It’s like a knight in shining armor coming to save the day. Ok, maybe not, but if you are stuck on the side of the road, you are definitely relieved to see them.

Philipsburg, Saint Martin – Our 3 Favorite Beaches

PhilipsburgAt one point in time, we had a timeshare in Saint Maarten (I know, I know) and have been there a few times. While we were there, we always had to spend some time in Philipsburg. Before heading there the first time we knew that Saint Maarten was a Caribbean island divided into two parts, the Dutch and French (Saint Martin) sides. However, the first time we visited, we did not know that Philipsburg is actually the capital of the Dutch Saint Martin side. We also quickly learned that bargain seekers flock to the duty-free and sales-tax-free stores of Philipsburg’s mile-long commercial district. This can be viewed as either good news (more shopping choices, better deals, and more beach activities) or bad news (more people) for this busy port of call. I am not a big crowd person, so we spent a lot of time in the water and near the beach. Here are some of our favorites: Continue reading “Philipsburg, Saint Martin – Our 3 Favorite Beaches”

Casa Bonita – Entertainment in Lakewood, CO

Casa Bonita - FrontWhen you talk to people about Casa Bonita in Lakewood, CO there are usually mixed reviews. However, it is still something everyone spending time in Colorado wants to experience at least once. My nieces and nephews had heard of Casa Bonita from South Park but had no idea that it was real. When my niece and nephews were visiting us here in CO and found out it was a real place, we had to go. So after a day of playing at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, we stopped in for dinner on our way back. Continue reading “Casa Bonita – Entertainment in Lakewood, CO”
