While enjoying the Riverwalk in San Antonio in February of 2018, we heard about a Farmers Market and decided to check it out. It was called the Pearl Brewery Farmers Market and was different than some of the other ones, but truly interesting. I also remember all the cute dogs and kids running around. It made me really miss our puppies and wished that they were with us. However, it was fun petting many of them. Continue reading “The Pearl Brewery Farmers Market in San Antonio, Texas”
In May of 2018, we took a two-week trip through Munich, Prague, and Vienna. While many European cities have amazing architecture I really enjoyed our visit to the Wien Rathaus City Hall in Vienna. It was one of the free things I mentioned in my post 7 Free Things to do in Vienna. It is beautiful and definitely much larger than I envisioned before our visit. I loved that it was built in gothic style, with a tower similar to gothic cathedrals. Just the tip of the iceberg so to speak, lol Continue reading “The Wien Rathaus City Hall in Vienna, Austria is Spectacular”
In June of 2004, I spent part of week in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the LWMS convention. It is a beautiful area and was glad I got to explore a little before the convention started. I knew about Falls Park and was looking forward to seeing it. However, I did some research and found quite a few other exciting things to do in the area. One place I was able to visit was a place called Split Rock Creek and Park. It is a great place for camping, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, fishing and picnicking. I love writing and telling stores, so I was excited to do my post today. However, it also made me feel a little sad, as my grandma was very special and important to me. I will never stop missing her 🙁 However, today I want share my visit to Dresden, Tennessee. For those you don’t know where it is (not many probably do), it’s a little tiny city in northwest Tennessee between Nashville and Memphis. Not only is this the birthplace of my wonderful grandma, but also the final resting place of her parents, my great grandparents, one of her sons, and her sister. While it was an emotional trip on many levels, it was also a wonderful visit. Continue reading “Dresden, Tennessee – Connecting with my Ancestral Roots”
We have been through central California many times while we lived there doing wine tasting etc. However one of the more interesting things we did was in June of 2010 on our way home from visiting Alcatraz in San Francisco. While we were driving through the area, we decided to stop and finally take a tour of Hearst Castle. We had been through this area many times but had never taken the time to stop and visit. So glad we finally did. Continue reading “Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California – Remarkable Views”
After spending New Year’s Eve in New Orleans in December of 2018, I can happily say we checked off two more states’ capitols while in the area. We toured the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, as well as the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson. Both were interesting, but the capitol in Louisiana was absolutely amazing. Granted it was still all decorated for the Christmas season, but it would be incredible without them. Continue reading “Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge – The Pelican State”
If you’ve ever been to St. Louis, most likely you’ve been to the beautiful Gateway Arch and Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. It was definitely on our to-do list the first time we were in Missouri. We took the 630-foot ride to the top of this world-famous stainless steel monument and saw the most amazing views of the city. While in the wonderful state of Arizona for some spring training games in March 2019, (check out my post on Tempe Diablo Stadium), I was lucky enough to tour a couple of museums and attractions, like the Heard Museum. One such place was the exciting Arizona Science Center which opened in 1984. They are located in Downtown Phoenix and have been a hub for science and discovery for the community and visitors. The Arizona Science Center features more than 300 hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, a state-of-the-art Dorrance Planetarium, a five-story IMAX theater. While in Bismark North Dakota checking our their State Capitol Building, we ate at a few restaurants that were out of this world! I will start with the our favorite Bismark food place – Space Aliens Grill & Bar, where Earthlings are welcome. We walked in and immediately felt like we were in a different galaxy. The décor features a 30-foot-high domed ceiling that displays a view of outer space. A force field of alien sculptures in the dining room, bar and arcade, showcase a variety of extraterrestrial settings and distinct personalities, encouraging each earthling to relax and enjoy the moment. It was a great atmosphere, lol. Continue reading “Bismark Food Experiences in North Dakota – They are Out of This World”
We recently returned from a trip to the hot and humid state of Florida. It was June of 2017 and way too muggy for me, lol. Other than that, we had a really nice time, especially in the Daytona area. One day while in Ormond Beach checking out the Ormond Memorial Art and Gardens, we were able to do a tour of The Casements and Gardens. Sadly I admit that I had not heard of this place until doing research for our trip, however, I am so glad we visited it while in the area in June of 2017.
