Last year we were in Phoenix on Christmas and Gene and I went to the Phoenix Zoo Zoo Lights with my best friend’s sister and brother’s families. It was something I had never done even here in Colorado so I was so excited to experience it with my extended family.
After being in Arizona MANY times through the years, Gene and I had never been able to do a tour of the Arizona State Capitol building, also known as the Arizona Capitol Museum. Happily, on a trip in December of 2021, we were finally able to visit this capitol and learn more about the history of Arizona. We ended up doing a self-guided tour, not sure if they have guided ones, but we grabbed a flyer about the capitol and set out to see what we could see and learn. You can also watch my video if you would like to see more pictures that are not on this post.
In February 2019 I spent a few days in Phoenix Arizona to attend a few spring training games. While preparing for my trip, I did some research and shared some of the best attractions in Phoenix. While I was thrilled to be able to see several museums such as the Arizona Science Center, Heard Museum, and the Phoenix Art Museum, I was also trying to stay on a budget. With that in mind, I was also looking for some free things to do. Luckily I have found quite a few free things to do in Phoenix. Some of the activities or attractions are inside and some are outside. Obviously, the group you are with, and the time of year will play a factor in what you can see and do. Continue reading “Phoenix, Arizona – Free Things to do in the Valley of the Sun”
A few years ago I was heading to Phoenix AZ for spring training games. While this wasn’t my first trip to Arizona, I haven’t spent a lot of time there. Therefore on this trip, I wanted to check out the top things to see in Phoenix Arizona (besides spring training of course). I had a great time researching and came up with a guide of the best attractions in Phoenix Arizona. Continue reading “Best Phoenix Attractions in the Phoenix, Arizona Metro Area”
To say Sedona is beautiful or gorgeous is a huge understatement. It has to be one of the most exquisite places in the southwest. It’s something you have to see for yourself. The locals say there is magic in the handsome red rocks, and I believe them. I was definitely smitten from the first time I saw them in October of 2003. We got there at night, so we didn’t get to see them until we woke up. What a sight to wake up to. I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I opened the room blinds. We had been to the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, but it was different. Maybe because there was more of them or they were bigger. Not sure, but they were magnificent. We stayed at the Sedona Summit, which was part of the timeshare we had at the time. It is a quiet resort and everyone was very friendly. Sadly, we only had two days there. I was so happy to be able to see some spring training games in late February and early March of 2019 for the first time ever! I am a HUGE Angels fan and was lucky enough to see them play at their spring training home stadium Tempe Diablo However, I also got to see them play At Salt River Field at Talking Stick which is the home spring training stadium for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks. It was actually the first stadium I visited, and it was incredible. It has views of Camelback Mountain, the McDowell Mountains, Four Peaks, Red Mountain, and the Superstition Mountains. Since I live here in Colorado now, I like the Rockies too, so it was going to be fun to see both teams play each other. Continue reading “Salt River Field – Rockies Home for Spring Training”
While in the wonderful state of Arizona for some spring training games in March 2019, (check out my post on Tempe Diablo Stadium), I was lucky enough to tour a couple of museums and attractions, like the Heard Museum. One such place was the exciting Arizona Science Center which opened in 1984. They are located in Downtown Phoenix and have been a hub for science and discovery for the community and visitors. The Arizona Science Center features more than 300 hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, a state-of-the-art Dorrance Planetarium, a five-story IMAX theater. We have traveled a lot throughout the US and have actually been to 41 of the 50 States. Thus I decided to share some information about each state as well as the state road sign. If we didn’t get to a state sign yet (or forgot to get one while we were there), I have posted another picture of a state sign and will replace it once we have pictures. In the meantime, please enjoy the information on the states from Alabama-Georgia. FYI, these are in alphabetical order.
Lake Havasu currently claims the title of “the city with most lighthouses in America,” and thanks to the Lake Havasu Lighthouse Club, Arizona someday could surpass Michigan as the state with the most lighthouses. Arizona? Really? In the middle of the desert is not a place you would think of when you think of lighthouses. However, if you have been to Lake Havasu you may have seen the 24 replica of famous lighthouses from the East Coast, West Coast and the Great Lakes area.
