Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, a small city which probably wouldn’t be as famous had the Wright Brothers not chosen it to be the place they would make history. According to the website www.kittyhawk.com they state that Kitty Hawk which was once a remote area, has grown into a summer resort area and provides some of the best beach recreation on the North Carolina Coast. Scotts Bluff National Monument – Gering, Nebraska
On a trip to see the Iowa State Capitol and the Nebraska State Capitol, we decided to spend part of a day at Scotts Bluff in western Nebraska. It was very interesting and full of history, but quite dry. Our dog wasn’t too happy about that, but she got over it 🙂 Even though it was quite a warm day in May of 2010 when we visited, we had a nice time exploring the area. O Say Can You See Fort McHenry? – Baltimore, MD
A “quick” visit to Fort McHenry National Monument near Baltimore, Maryland turned out to be an experience that touched my heart in a profound way. It made me feel extremely patriotic, happy and proud to be an American! I was never much of a history fan in school, but since we have been traveling I have a great appreciation and a desire to see and learn more. Therefore I went along with Gene because he likes forts and it was a free day, August 2009, so I thought why not? I am so glad I did. Willis Tower and Our Skydeck Experience – Chicago
During our travels, we have been to the top of a few tall buildings such as the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, the Space Needle, and the Vancouver Lookout Tower at Harbour Center in Vancouver. Thus when we were in Chicago in June of 2016, we had to go up to the top of Willis Tower. I will continue to call it by that name on this post, but not without saying first that it will always be the Sears Tower for me. All right, now that I got that off my chest, I wanted to say, we had a great time on our visit. Apparently we are not alone in wanting to see the phenomenal views, because it was stated that approximately 1.5 million tourists visit the Skydeck each year. On a side note, the Skydeck Experience opened on June 22, 1974. Continue reading “Willis Tower and Our Skydeck Experience – Chicago”
Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center – Great Falls, Montana
In September, 2019, Gene and I headed to Montana for the TBEX conference, but also to explore the beautiful state. On the plus side, we also got to see my niece who had recently moved to Great Falls. They were amazing, but I was also looking forward to seeing the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. This may not be on everyone’s to-do list while visiting the area, but I am related to John Colter who was part of the expedition. Thus, I was very interested and excited to be able to explore this museum. I wasn’t sure what to expect when we first arrived, but I was surprised at how big the center really is.
