McGulpin Point Light – Mackinaw City, Michigan

McGulpin Point - Lighthouse

We had a wonderful trip to several locations in Michigan during our week in May of 2021. I really enjoyed going to a game at Comerica Park in Detroit and seeing the Mackinaw Bridge in Mackinaw City. While in the Mackinaw City area we were able to see about of lighthouses. The first one was Whitefish Point and the one I am sharing today, McGulpin Point Light. Both were very cool but sadly McGulpin was closed. We still had a great time walking around, taking pictures, and learning a little about the lighthouse as well as the area.

Berlin Wall Exhibit – Rapid City, South Dakota

Berlin Wall Exhibit 10

Last week Gene and I took to trip to South Dakota and decided to do a few things that some visitors may not have time to visit or experience. One of these places was visiting a memorial and piece of the Berlin Wall. It is called Memorial Park and is located on Rapid Creek adjacent to The Monument (formerly known as the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center). The park holds one of America’s largest Berlin Wall exhibits (two large slabs of the wall), Memorial Pond, Flood of 1972 Memorial fountain, several other sculptures, a band shelter, and Legacy Commons.  It is a very special and touching exhibit. Along with the wall exhibit, there are many interpretive monument stations explaining why the wall was built, and how it was eventually taken down.

Puerto Plata – Dominican Republic Visitor Guide Series Part 5 of 5

Puerto Plata - Beach 1

Hi all, I am doing a little something different this month and doing a 5 part series on cities to visit in the Dominion Republic. This is the final part of my 5 part series. Below are links to other cities in the country that we hope to visit. I have been watching some of my favorite YouTube vloggers Delightful Travellers and they have been there for six months and are planning to be there for a few more months. They make it look so beautiful and inviting that we are seriously thinking about spending a week or so there over Christmas and New Years’ this year. We have never been out of the country over the New Year I don’t think, and have never been to the Dominion Republic so this will be an adventure! Not sure where we will end up if we do go to the DR, thus I wanted to do some research on many cities to decide where we would like to visit most. This post is about a beach city named Puerto Plata. In it, I am going to share some of the fun things I hope to do if we make it to Puerta Plata, as well as share a little history about the area.

Flight Delays and Cancellations of Top Four U.S. Airlines

Flight Delays - DIA

Many years ago, two weeks before a trip to Paris, France we got an email from American Airlines that they had made minor changes to an upcoming flight (I guess a 6-hour difference is minor to them). I honestly don’t know how they are still in business.  That was when we decided to stop flying American. We were sick and tired of all their flight delays, and cancellations. Thus on a trip a few years ago we had two first-class tickets to NYC in October just to use up their miles as we did not, and still don’t, plan to fly them again if possible.
