White Water Rafting – Six White Water Rivers to Paddle this Summer!

White Water RaftingI have always loved the water but forgot how much until I was working on my Beach, Mountains, or Best of Both Worlds post. It made me stop, reflect, and acknowledge that it has been too long since I hit the beach or a stream. It also saddened me to realize that I have never been White Water Rafting. That is unless you count the Big Foot Rapids ride at Knott’s Berry Farm, which I don’t. lol It was fun and all, but I would love to experience the real thing one day. With that in mind, I did some research and found 6 rivers that I would love to explore via rafting.  I am going to start with the Salmon River in Idaho. Hyatt Resorts – Hyatt House – Downtown Seattle, Washington

Hyatt House Seattle-BldgAs a Hyatt reward member, we have stayed at a few resorts in their brand, but had never stayed at a Hyatt House until last weekend. We had a phenomenal stay at one of their newer resorts, the Hyatt House, Downtown Seattle.  We were in Seattle in February of 2017 to celebrate a belated Valentine’s day celebration, and it was a perfect location as it was literally across the street from the iconic Space Needle.    Continue reading “Hyatt Resorts – Hyatt House – Downtown Seattle, Washington”

Safeco Field and Home to The Seattle Mariners – Seattle, Washington

Safeco-FrontWhile in Seattle to see the Microsoft Visitor Center, Boeing, Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and a few other attractions, we also visiteded Safeco Field to watch my Anaheim Angels take on the Settle Mariners. We had a great time and the Seattle Mariners employees and fans were great hosts. As a side note, I was very happy to visit the stadium as it represented my 18th ballpark and it was the last one I hadn’t seen west of the Mississippi. Getting closer to my goal of visiting all 30 parks!  Anyway, below is a little information about Safeco Field and the Seattle Mariners. On a side note, our trip was in May of 2016 and it was called Safeco Field. Since then the stadium has been changed names to T-Mobile Park. However, for the sake of this post, I am going to continue calling it Safeco Field since that was the name when we visited. Washington State Capitol in Olympia – The Evergreen State

Washington State Capitol - FrontOn a trip to Seattle in May of 2016 to watch my Angels play the Mariners at Safeco Field, we were able to check one more state capitol off our list, the Washington State Capitol in Olympia! I have seriously lost count, but it was really nice to mark this one off our list 🙂  Even though the capitol building isn’t in Seattle, it was only an hour and ½ away, so we made a day trip out of it. Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour of Seattle, Washington

Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour - SignWhile in Seattle for Valentine’s Day of 2017,  we did an unusual tour.  We had done a few of the touristy things like the Space NeedlePike Place Market,  Microsoft, etc, and were looking for something different. We decided on Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour. It’s a humorous stroll through intriguing subterranean storefronts and sidewalks entombed when the city rebuilt on top of itself after the Great Fire of June 6, 1889.  It wasn’t something I would have thought of if someone hadn’t mentioned it to me a few years back. I was surprised at how much fun we had exploring Seattle’s underground. Continue reading “Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour of Seattle, Washington”

South Dakota – Wyoming – US States Number 41 Through 50

South Dakota – Wyoming

USA Flag

We have traveled a lot throughout the US and have actually been to 41 of the 50 States. Thus I decided to share some information about each state as well as the state road sign. If we didn’t get to a state sign yet (or forgot to get one while we were there), I have posted another picture of a state sign and will replace it once we have pictures. In the meantime, please enjoy the information on the states from South Dakota – Wyoming.  FYI, these are in alphabetical order. The Museum of Flight in Tukwila, WA – Travel Through Time and Space

Museum of Flight - SignWhile we were in Seattle in May of 2016 checking out the Space Needle, Microsoft, Boeing, and Pike Place Market, my husband toured the Museum of Flight in  Tukwila, Washington. Here are his memories from his visit. The Museum of Flight in Tukwila, Washington is one of the largest aviation museums in the world. It is located next to Boeing Field and one of Boeing’s manufacturing plants, so many classic Boeing aircraft are of course represented, but the collection contains many others. Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington – Let’s Go Shopping

Pike Place Market - SignOne of the things Gene really wanted to see and do while we were in Seattle in May of 2016, besides Boeing and Museum of Flight, was visiting the Pike Place Market. He claimed the main reason was to watch the guys throw some fish around. I really didn’t see the appeal on the fish-throwing part, but I did want to see the market.  We spent a few areas one afternoon before heading next door to Safeco Field to watch my Angels play the Mariners. We had a great time walking about the market place which I learned opened on August 17, 1907. Wow, I had no idea it has been around that long. Microsoft Visitor Center Redmond, Washington – Vision of the Future

Microsoft-BallIn May of 2016 we spent a few days in Seattle on our way home from Vancouver, Canada. While there we had to make a point of visiting the Microsoft campus and Visitors Center. As a person in the IT field, this was very high on my list and was one of the first things we did between visiting the Boeing plant and the Museum of Flight which were on the top of Gene’s to-do list. Space Needle in Seattle – “The 400 Day Wonder”

Space-Needle-Up-Close

Many moons ago I lived in Seattle for a couple of years. Regrettably, I never had a chance to do many attractions like Pike Place Market, Microsoft, Boeing, or the WA State Capitol in Olympia. Sadly, I was never able to take a ride to the top of the Space Needle.  Yes, it is a tourist trap, but one I had wished I had done while living right there. Happily I was finally able to on our last visit to Seattle.  It was truly amazing and I am glad Gene and I got to experience it together. Of course it was not typical Seattle weather and it was quite hot that day. I kept telling Gene this is not the Seattle I remember. Not sure if he believed me or not. Either way, it was a beautiful day and the views were phenomenal. Continue reading “Space Needle in Seattle – “The 400 Day Wonder””
