Central Park in New York is Exquisite During the Fall

Central ParkDesignated a National Historic Landmark on May 23, 1963, it is the most visited urban park in the United States. Central Park receives approximately 35 million visitors annually and is one of the most filmed locations in the world. I was so glad that we were going to New York in the fall, as I was hoping to have a “When Harry Met Sally” moment, but it wasn’t as “fallish” as I was thinking it might be.  However it was still amazing and quite magical for us that day, Gene and I got re-engaged!!! While in Central Park we decided to renew our vows on our 25th anniversary coming up. It was so beautiful, just like the park. I will tell you more about our visit, but first a little about the park itself. Continue reading “Central Park in New York is Exquisite During the Fall”

The Maryland State House in Annapolis – The Old Line State

Maryland State House - FrontIn August of 2009, we found ourselves in Maryland and were able to catch a couple of games at Camden Yards, visit Fort McHenry, as well as tour the Maryland State Capitol. More formally known as the Maryland State House. Whatever they call it, I call it beautiful. Not only was the architecture of the Capitol beautiful, but the grounds were also amazing. We had a great time walking around and taking in its history. Continue reading “The Maryland State House in Annapolis – The Old Line State”

Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, New York – A NYC Must See

Rockefeller Center-1In October of 2015 we able to take our first trip to New York City and finally see Rockefeller Center and Plaza, as well as the Skating Rink. It was a little too early for the Christmas tree, but it was still incredible. What I didn’t realize was how large the area is. It is located in the center of Midtown Manhattan, spanning the area between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, and is a complex of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres.  I also didn’t know that it was declared a New York City Landmark on April 23, 1985, and a National Historic Landmark on December 23, 1987. The Brooklyn Bridge – Brooklyn Bridge Park, New York

Brooklyn Bridge-1December of 2018 Gene and I we were lucky enough to spend a week in New York. It was magical and I loved seeing the city all decked out for Christmas. The sights and sounds were amazing. It is something you can really describe. You just have to experience it yourself if you haven’t. Anyway, since it was our second trip to New York and decided to explore a little and headed out to take some pictures of the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge. I love bridges and this was a highlight on my list that we didn’t get much of a chance to do the last time we were in NYC. So we some searching and found that the best place to see both of these was at a place called Brooklyn Bridge Park in the DUMBO neighborhood. Recently I shared a post with some pictures and history of the Manhattan Bridge. Today I am going to do the same for the more famous Brooklyn Bridge. They are both beautiful and unique in their own way. Continue reading “The Brooklyn Bridge – Brooklyn Bridge Park, New York”

Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta – The Peach State

Georgia State Capitol - FrontWhile in Atlanta, June of 2012, we had a great time touring the Word of Coke, seeing Stone Mountain, and spending a few hours at Centennial Olympic Park. However, on our continued quest to visit all the 50 state capitols, we also toured the Georgia State Capitol while in the area. Yes, 2012 was a while ago, but I still remember our visit fondly, as well as their amazing staircase. I think it was the highlight of the building. Of course, that is just my opinion, but I really liked it. Continue reading “Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta – The Peach State”

The New York State Capitol in Albany – The Empire State

New York State Capitol - FrontOur latest quest to visit all 50 capitol buildings took us to the New  York State Capitol in Albany. This has to be one of the most interesting and remarkable state capitols we have seen. Up until this point, I think the one is Salt Lake City was the best, but this one definitely gives it a run for its money.  It looks more like a mansion than a state capitol. It took 32 years to “complete” at a cost of $25 million which is approximately half a billion current dollars.  As you would imagine, it was the most expensive government building of its time. Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge – The Pelican State

Louisiana State Capitol - FrontAfter spending New Year’s Eve in New Orleans in December of 2018, I can happily say we checked off two more states’ capitols while in the area. We toured the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, as well as the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson.  Both were interesting, but the capitol in Louisiana was absolutely amazing.  Granted it was still all decorated for the Christmas season, but it would be incredible without them.  Continue reading “Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge – The Pelican State”

Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Quincy Market – Boston, Massachusetts

Faneuil Hall-BldgThis time last year I was preparing for a crazy end of September. We spent a week in St. Louis exploring some amazing places as the Laumier Sculpture Garden and their Botanical Gardens. As soon as that trip was over, I was heading to Boston, Massachusetts for a business trip. I was thrilled to check out the beautiful Public Gardens and the busy Harbor and Long Wharf Pier. While at the pier, I walked across the way to check out Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Quincy Market. Both are very unique and have a lot of history. Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson – The Magnolia State

Mississippi State Capitol-FrontIn January of 2018, we were in Baton Rouge, LA checking out the Louisiana State Capitol as well as some of the Sights and Sounds around NOLA. Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery – The Yellowhammer State

Alabama State Capitol-FrontIn May of 2011, we found ourselves in Florida to see the St. Augustine Lighthouse, the Florida State Capitol, The Budweiser Brewery, and a few other attractions. While there we took a couple of extra days and went up to Montgomery Alabama. We met up with some friends that live in Tennessee (read my post about our visit to the Jack Daniels Distillery), and toured the Alabama State Capitol Building.
