Hilton Hawaiian Village Fireworks and Rainbow Tower

Hilton Hawaiian Village - SIgnIn an earlier post, I shared our experience at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki while on Oahu in December of 2016. Today I wanted to share a little about the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  We did not stay here, nor sadly did we even step inside of the hotel.  We visited the hotel for two very interesting reasons.  Continue reading “Hilton Hawaiian Village Fireworks and Rainbow Tower”

Plate Lunches on Oahu, Hawaii – Our Four Favorites

Plate Lunch - Loco MocoOne of the things that everyone told me I would enjoy while in Hawaii (besides the ocean of course) was the food, especially the plate lunches. I didn’t know exactly what that meant yet, but I quickly found out that we had quite a few plate lunches during our visit to Oahu in December of 2016.  They may be served a little differently depending on where you go, but they are pretty much all the same, a protein, 2 scoops of rice, and 1 scoop of macaroni salad.  Some places even let you have a little side salad instead of the macaroni salad if you wish. After our first one, they were pretty much all we ate while on Oahu. Below are four of the places we enjoyed the most while on the island.

Tropical Drinks on Oahu, Hawaii – My Top Four Favorites

Tropical Drinks - MiscThere are some great things that come in fours, but my most recent favorite four things come in the form of liquids drinks, lol. I am not a huge drinker, but we were on Oahu, in December of 2016, and how can you not like all the amazing tropical drinks on the islands? While many were good, there were four that stood out to me more than the other drinks.  I think I drank six months’ worth of drinks I would usually drink all in one week, lol.

Hyatt Resorts – Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort, Hawaii

Hyatt Regency Waikiki - FrontAs Hyatt Reward members we have stayed at a few Hyatt locations, however, none of them have been as nice as the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa. It is located on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki and has to be one of the most incredible hotels in the Hyatt Brand.  We had stayed at the Andaz on 5th Avenue in New York which was really nice, but this one blew me away. The Aloha Spirit was evident as soon as I walked into the hotel in December of 2016. As we headed toward the front desk at least 3 employees nodded and said aloha, and one of them offered me a drink of water or pineapple Iced Tea. It was very tasty. It was a very nice welcome. The Dole Plantation on Oahu, Hawaii – Our Amazing Pineapple Experience

Dole Plantation-BldgWhile we were on Oahu in December of 2016 we decided to do another local tourist thing (we had already done Pearl Harbor, and the State Capitol) and we visited the Dole Plantation. It was a lot different than what I was expecting. Then again, I guess I really didn’t know what to expect. What I was expecting was the beautiful scenery around the plantation. I wasn’t disappointed. Hawaii – Oahu Photos and Video from our Amazing Trip

Hawaii Pics 1With 2020 being so bad for travel this year, I have been trying to relive some of my favorite trips. One of these was our trip to Oahu, Hawaii in Dec/Jan of 2016-2017. It is one trip I will never forget. I had wanted to turn a few pictures/photo slideshows into a video from our trip to Hawaii, but never seem to get around to doing it.  Since things were slow travel-wise this year, I figured this was a great year to work on this project.

Hawaii Pics 3As I said earlier we were in Hawaii over Christmas and New Year’s and I was not happy about coming back, lol. It was so beautiful and peaceful, and I really wanted to share our happy memories. I loved how such a small island had so many different flavors and feelings. Waikiki was definitely different from the North Shore, even though they weren’t very far apart. I loved seeing all the different vegetation, the types of beaches, and the uniqueness of the houses.

Hawaii Pics 8I could have probably done a post on that by itself, and who knows, maybe I will one day. In the meantime, please enjoy a little history of the beautiful island of Oahu.  It is also known as “The Gathering Place”, is the third-largest of the Hawaiian Islands. It is home to roughly one million people—about two-thirds of the population of the U.S. state of Hawaii. The island lies within Honolulu County and the state capital, Honolulu, is on Oahu’s southeast coast.Hawaii Pics 4 Oahu is 44 miles (71 km) long and 30 miles (48 km) across. Its shoreline is 227 miles (365 km) long. The island is composed of two separate shield volcanoes: the Waiʻanae and Koʻolau Ranges, with a broad valley or saddle (the central Oahu Plain) between them. The highest point is Kaʻala in the Waiʻanae Range, rising to 4,003 feet (1,220 m) above sea level.

Hawaii Pics 6Being roughly diamond-shaped, surrounded by ocean, and divided by mountain ranges, directions on Oahu are not generally described with the compass directions found throughout the world. Locals instead use directions originally using Honolulu as the central point. To go ʻewa means traveling toward the western tip of the island, “Diamond Head” is toward the eastern tip, mauka is inland (toward the central Koʻolau Mountain range, north of Honolulu), and makai toward the sea. When these directions became common, Diamond Head was the eastern edge of the primary populated area. Today, with a much larger populace and extensive development, the mountain itself is often not actually to the east when directions are given, and is not to be used as a literal point of reference—to go “Diamond Head” is to go to the east from anywhere on the island.

With that said, above is the video with some of the pictures on my YouTube Channel. If you like it, please subscribe. I don’t have many videos on there yet, but I am working on it. Hope you enjoy this video. Mahalo for watching. Since I did a video with many pictures, I decided to share only 8 of my favorite beach pictures on this post.  I picked 8 in honor of the 8 Hawaiian Islands. We were all over the island, so these are random shots from all over the place.

Hawaii Pics 5Enjoy and please share if you happen to know where any of these pictures were taken. If you don’t know, please share my post via Facebook or Twitter so someone else who may know can share. Like I said we were all over Oahu and I can’t remember where many of these were taken. A few from the North Shore and Waikiki or course, but some of the others are a blur.  I don’t mean that in a bad way. There were so many wonderful and amazing places that they mingled together. I do know that I wished we had spent more time on the North Short. It was beautiful.

Hawaii Pics 7Every corner we turned was more amazing than the one we saw a few minutes before. There were so many pull-out and amazing places to see. I am sure the locals don’t appreciate that, but I guess they are probably used to it.  Sorry to any drivers we may have inadvertently annoyed. Either way, here are a few beach pictures from our trip to Oahu. Thanks and I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them. Mahalo

The Island of Oahu, Hawaii – Our 8 Glorious Filled Days

Island of Oahu - turtle-bay-2Aloha. I am Roxanne and I was asked by my sister Samantha over at Golden Age Traveling to write a bit about my visit to the Island of Oahu, Hawaii in August of 2015. To be perfectly honest, when she first asked me I thought how in the world could I come up with a few paragraphs about my vacation to Hawaii? Obviously, I had never been to Hawaii. Now having been there and experienced the true beauty of the island of Oahu, and learning just a little bit about the natives of Hawaii and how they live and the pride they hold for their beautiful state, has left me in awe.

Hawaii State Capitol in Oahu – The Beautiful Aloha State

Hawaii State Capitol FrontOur continual pursuit of visiting all 50 state capitol buildings led us to the Hawaii State Capitol in Honolulu in December 2016. We have been to more than half of the capitols, and this one had some of the most friendly workers and tour guides. Before we even started the tour, we were let into one of the offices to take a picture of their Bronze State Seal. I love the state seals, and this was so nice of them to let us do this. We could definitely feel the aloha spirit here. 🙂 Continue reading “Hawaii State Capitol in Oahu – The Beautiful Aloha State”

Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout on Oahu, Hawaii – Panoramic Views

Nu‘uanu Pali - SignWe have been traveling a lot for the last few years and it can be quite expensive depending on where you are visiting. However, no matter where we go, we have learned to do a lot of online searching and find free or cheaper activities in the area.  We also will use things like Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc. There are a lot of these types of online services out there today, not to mention all the blog posts!  This is how I found one of the first places we visited in December of 2016, Nu‘uanu Pali and Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout.
