Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park – Georgia

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield 6While visiting some friends in Georgia and attending a convention in June of 2012, we had a great time checking out the Coca-Cola Museum as well as their capitol. One of the more interesting things we did was have dinner at  Stone Mountain and watched a laser light show on the huge monument depicting Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis during the Civil War. It was very interesting and led us to check out a few other Civil War parks and Battlefields. One such place we visited during our visit was Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. This huge park is located between Marietta and Kennesaw.

White Water Rafting – Six White Water Rivers to Paddle this Summer!

White Water RaftingI have always loved the water but forgot how much until I was working on my Beach, Mountains, or Best of Both Worlds post. It made me stop, reflect, and acknowledge that it has been too long since I hit the beach or a stream. It also saddened me to realize that I have never been White Water Rafting. That is unless you count the Big Foot Rapids ride at Knott’s Berry Farm, which I don’t. lol It was fun and all, but I would love to experience the real thing one day. With that in mind, I did some research and found 6 rivers that I would love to explore via rafting.  I am going to start with the Salmon River in Idaho. Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta – The Peach State

Georgia State Capitol - FrontWhile in Atlanta, June of 2012, we had a great time touring the Word of Coke, seeing Stone Mountain, and spending a few hours at Centennial Olympic Park. However, on our continued quest to visit all the 50 state capitols, we also toured the Georgia State Capitol while in the area. Yes, 2012 was a while ago, but I still remember our visit fondly, as well as their amazing staircase. I think it was the highlight of the building. Of course, that is just my opinion, but I really liked it. Continue reading “Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta – The Peach State”

Alabama – Georgia – US States Number 1 Through 10

ALABAMA – GEORGIA

We have traveled a lot throughout the US and have actually been to 41 of the 50 States. Thus I decided to share some information about each state as well as the state road sign. If we didn’t get to a state sign yet (or forgot to get one while we were there), I have posted another picture of a state sign and will replace it once we have pictures. In the meantime, please enjoy the information on the states from Alabama-Georgia.  FYI, these are in alphabetical order.

Stone Mountain and Laser Show in Atlanta, Georgia

Stone Mountain - FlagsOn a trip to Atlanta to see some friends and visit the World of Coca-Cola and Centennial Olympic Park, we went to Stone Mountain. It was summer, June 2012, so there were quite a few activities going on, including a laser light show in the evening.  For those of you who have not heard of this place (I hadn’t before our trip), it is a major recreational area in Atlanta, with 3,200 acres of wooded parkland and lakes. In the center of this massive park is a  monument to the Confederacy.  There is a carving on the huge monument which depicts three Confederate figures during the Civil War: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis. carved out by Gutzon Borglum, the same person who carved Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.  Thought that was pretty interesting.
