One our desire to see all US State Capitols we marked off the South Carolina State Capitol while in the Columbia area in June of 2012. We had just done a tour earlier of the Georgia State Capitol and I was looking forward to comparing the two. This capitol, most commonly known as The South Carolina State House, is located in the center of Columbia and lies at the confluence of the Saluda River and Broad River which merge at Columbia to form the Congaree River. It was there that in 1860, the South Carolina Secession Convention took place and their delegates voted for secession, making South Carolina the first state to leave the Union in the events leading up to the Civil War.
