Every summer we’d pack up the truck with food, clothes, fishing poles, and camping gear to go spend three weeks to a month swimming, fishing, and hiking up at Mono Hot Springs in the High Sierras. Palo Duro Canyon Park – The Grand Canyon of Texas

Palo Duro Canyon Park 1While in Amarillo, Texas November of 2020, we decided to take a drive through the Palo Duro Canyon Park. It is not very far from Amarillo, about ½ hour, so definitely something to do while in the area, especially if you have pets and want to explore some nature.  It is a huge canyon, apparently the second largest canyon in the US (behind the Grand Canyon of course). Not surprisingly it is often referred to as The Grand Canyon of Texas.

Split Rock Creek and Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Split Rock Creek 6In June of 2004, I spent part of week in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the LWMS convention.  It is a beautiful area and was glad I got to explore a little before the convention started. I knew about Falls Park and was looking forward to seeing it. However, I did some research and found quite a few other exciting things to do in the area. One place I was able to visit was a place called Split Rock Creek and Park. It is a great place for camping, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, fishing and picnicking.
