I have been sorting and going through pictures and was taken back to my days as a child. Every summer we’d pack up the truck with food, clothes, fishing poles, and camping gear to go spend three weeks to a month swimming, fishing, and hiking up at Mono Hot Springs in the High Sierras. It was always an adventure filled with lots of fun and surprises, but always the same too. Continue reading “Mono Hot Springs, California – Fun Summer Adventures”
While on one of our trips in Northern California, checking out the Golden Gate Bridge, we were lucky enough to drive the breathtaking 17-mile drive through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula. It is absolutely beautiful and follows the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses, mansions, and scenic attractions, including Spanish Bay Cove, the Lone Cypress, Bird Rock, and the 5,300-acre Del Monte Forest of Monterey Cypress trees. Before we went I knew it was 17 miles. duh, but I didn’t know it had four primary entrances, the main highway entrance at California State Route 1, and entrances in Carmel and Pacific Grove. Baseball is back! The first games are being played today, and my Angels and the Rockies open on Friday night. The Rockies’ opponent this season is the Los Angeles Dodgers. Thus I decided to share a post about the actual team located in Los Angeles. Living in Southern California for many years, we have been to many games at Dodgers Stadium. I think one of the highlights was when I was at Dodgers Stadium when Ramón Martínez pitched a no-hitter on July 14, 1995. It is still the only no-hitter I’ve seen in person. It was quite exciting. Now for some history about the Dodgers organization. Continue reading “Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA – Home of the Dodgers”
Orlando is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world, and one of the biggest attractions of course is Disney World. This is only one reason why thousands of people flock to Orlando yearly. The streets are lined aesthetically with palm, pine, and oak trees. There are also many lakes and parks that add to the beauty of the city. I have always loved the water but forgot how much until I was working on my Beach, Mountains, or Best of Both Worlds post. It made me stop, reflect, and acknowledge that it has been too long since I hit the beach or a stream. It also saddened me to realize that I have never been White Water Rafting. That is unless you count the Big Foot Rapids ride at Knott’s Berry Farm, which I don’t. lol It was fun and all, but I would love to experience the real thing one day. With that in mind, I did some research and found 6 rivers that I would love to explore via rafting. I am going to start with the Salmon River in Idaho. I lived most of my life in Southern California and spent many weekends in Las Vegas. As much fun as Vegas is, it can be really expensive and really crowded. I am not much of a crowd person, so I much rather head to Laughlin to gamble and spend a long weekend. It’s only about 41/2 hours from where we used to live so it was a nice 3 or 4-day weekend trip we did every few years. I would rather go there most times, but many of our friends always liked to go to Vegas for bachelor/bachelorette parties or birthday parties. I also tried to convince people to go to Laughlin instead, lol. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn’t. 🙁
As stated in many previous posts, I am thrilled to be living in Colorado now but there are a few things I miss about the Golden State of California. I miss our family and friends of course which is why we keep coming back to visit so often. However, while we are there, I also love eating at a few restaurants that aren’t in CO as well as seeing the incredible Pacific Ocean. I have been on both coasts and really like the Pacific better. There is just nothing like it. We usually try to get to one of our two favorites Seal Beach and Huntington Beach. On this particular trip, we made it to Huntington Beach. Even though it was cold, and the water was probably beyond freezing, we enjoyed being in the area. Continue reading “Huntington Beach in California – Love Strolling Along the Ocean”
Living in California, spending a long weekend in Palm Springs happened very often. It was a great place to get away and relax. One of the more exciting things to do while visiting the area was taking a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. We recently rode the tram at the Royal Gorge, and there were a few similarities. Apparently, it is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world. Before its construction, the only way to the top of the mountain was to hike a number of hours from Idyllwild. We have been through central California many times while we lived there doing wine tasting etc. However one of the more interesting things we did was in June of 2010 on our way home from visiting Alcatraz in San Francisco. While we were driving through the area, we decided to stop and finally take a tour of Hearst Castle. We had been through this area many times but had never taken the time to stop and visit. So glad we finally did. Continue reading “Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California – Remarkable Views”
We have traveled a lot throughout the US and have actually been to 41 of the 50 States. Thus I decided to share some information about each state as well as the state road sign. If we didn’t get to a state sign yet (or forgot to get one while we were there), I have posted another picture of a state sign and will replace it once we have pictures. In the meantime, please enjoy the information on the states from Alabama-Georgia. FYI, these are in alphabetical order.
